One of the best-loved British films of all time, Oscar-winner Danny Boyle’s (Slumdog Millionaire, 127 Hours) Trainspotting is a gleeful, spirited adaptation of Irvine Welsh’s novel about a group of heroin addicts in late 80s Edinburgh. Ewan McGregor stars as Renton, a young man rattling around the city with his friends Sick Boy (Jonny Lee Miller), Spud (Ewen Bremner) and violent sociopath Begbie (Robert Carlyle), as they struggle to score, shoot up – and just maybe one day get clean – amid various chaotic episodes. Shot with incredible energy and verve, Boyle’s provocative, surreal black comedy encapsulated a pop-culture moment but still feels fresh.
