THE LODGER

Dir: Alfred Hitchcock | UK | 1926 | 92 mins
Cast: June Tripp, Ivor Novello, Marie Ault

Alfred Hitchcock’s silent tale of the London fog is recognised as ‘the first true Hitchcock movie’. Inspired by Jack the Ripper, his second feature and first suspense film displays key Hitchcock tropes: erroneous accusations and a play on point of view. A woman is murdered and charting the responses of police, press and public, a mysterious stranger (Ivor Novello) emerges from the gloom keen to rent a room from fashion model Daisy. Despite her detective boyfriend’s objections, she takes to the handsome newcomer.

This screening will be accompanied by Elizabeth-Jane Baldry’s harp score.
