Open Morning, History Display, Poster Sale and Tours

At 10am we throw open the doors to the cinema, and allow you to nosey around our main public spaces with the lights on for once! We’ll be opening the cinema to the public in the afternoon for our family matinee film, Friends Presents… choice and main evening film, so the event will close at 12.45pm.

Join a bookable history tour with the Manager to see the balcony, along with backstage (behind the screen), the old orchestra pit and the Projection Box. Tours start in the foyer at 10.15am and 12.00pm prompt – please email with all party member’s names, an email address and a mobile phone number and the tour you wish to join to gain a place on a tour, which are limited.

Kate Higham, joint-author of the history book ‘Hebden Bridge Picture House: The Life and Times of a Local Treasure’ (on sale for £10; why not get it autographed!), will present a talk from 11am to 11.45am (please take a seat at the front of the stalls pre 11am) on the theme “Over a century of Hebden Bridge at the Movies”.

At 11.45am you can enjoy two free short films on the big screen! Step into the shoes of local young filmmakers as they explore life and legacy in their neighbourhood in two short films about Hebden Bridge. These short films were part of Changing the Story: Life and Legacy in our Neighbourhoods and screened as part of the 2019 Hebden Bridge Arts Festival.

You’ll also be able to browse a history of the cinema display in the foyer, look through old film posters which the Friends of the Picture House will have for sale (bring cash!), think about sponsoring a cinema seat, sign up to our Picture This film lovers scheme, and sit down with a nice hot drink and a homemade cake whilst looking over our cinema programme.
