In the deadbeat Iranian ghost town of Bad City, a lone female vampire with kohl-brimming eyes and a floating hijab searches for prey. Meeting Arash, who through a series of events involving his junkie father, a prostitute and a drug-dealing pimp, encounters the enigmatic bloodsucker, an unlikely love story begins to unfold. Wonderfully languorous and pulpy, A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night’s stark black-and-white world overflows with ideas. Filmmaker Ana Lily Amirpour – also a painter, sculptor, comic book creator and the lead singer in a rock band – references Jim Jarmusch and David Lynch to create something singular, a feminist spaghetti western.
“Cool, comic […] opens a new vein of undead horror” **** Peter Bradshaw, Guardian
