Paul Feig, comedic mastermind behind Bridesmaids and Spy makes an unexpected U-turn into thrillers with A Simple Favour; a stylish Gone Girl-esque noir starring Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively. Based on Darcey Bell’s hit novel, it centres on blogger Stephanie (Kendrick) as she investigates her wealthy, beautiful best friend Emily’s (Blake Lively) sudden disappearance – a quest that’s quickly filled with troubling ambiguity and the question of who is duping whom. Filled with twists and secrets, betrayals and revelations and with a supporting cast including Rupert Friend, Linda Cardellini and Andrew Rannells, A Simple Favour is an engrossing and entertaining watch.
