Rachel Tunnard’s impressive debut feature, a deft and nuanced comedy starring Jodie Whittaker, takes a quixotic look at the stresses of modern life. Anna (Whittaker) is stuck: she’s approaching 30, living in her mum’s garden shed and wondering why the suffragettes ever bothered. A week before her birthday, her Mum says she has to move out, get a haircut and stop dressing like a homeless teenager. Naturally, Anna tells her Mum to back off: but when her school friend comes to visit, her self-imposed isolation becomes impossible to maintain.
