Based on the short story by George Moore, The Singular Life of Albert Nobbs, Glenn Close stars in this period drama about the life of a 19th century Irish woman, who poses as a man so that she can work as a butler at an extravagant Dublin hotel. Maintaining her elaborate ruse for two decades, Albert (Close) suddenly finds her cover threatened by the arrival of a painter who understands Albert better than anyone else. Meanwhile, Albert finds her attempts to help hotel maid Helen (Wasikowska) thwarted when Helen becomes enamored with a charming but callous handyman (Johnson).
