Documentary (featuring Ingmar Bergman, Liv Ullmann, Gunnel Lindblom, Elliott Gould)

Jane Magnusson directs this vivid, passionate study of Ingmar Bergman, a fitting centennial portrait of a towering giant of world cinema. Featuring a wealth of previously unseen archive material, contemporary interviews and clips from Bergman’s vast body of work, this fascinating documentary centres on 1957 – a turbulent but miraculously productive year in which Bergman unveiled The Seventh Seal and Wild Strawberries and worked on theatre and TV productions – whilst also zooming out to take in this consummate filmmaker’s wider life, examining both the artist and the flawed, complicated human being.
