A screening for Bradford International Film Festival 2012 The Lord’s Ride is a total one-off, but imagine a cross between Down Terrace, Animal Kingdom, Fish Tank and Channel 4’s My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding and you’re somewhere near the territory explored by debutant writer-director Jean-Charles Hue. Himself hailing from the formerly-nomadic Yeniche ethnicity of Roma, Hue has close family connections with one particular community that’s taken permanent residence in shabby Beauvais, and who appear – as themselves – in this lightly fictionalised true story of crime and redemption.
