Produced by the team behind Control, this amusing, nostalgic biopic of oft-controversial and uniquely talented singer Morrissey, erstwhile frontman of seminal β€˜80s band The Smiths, explores his early life in β€˜70s Manchester. Jack Lowden (’71, Denial) stars as young Steven Patrick Morrissey; full of alienation, youthful arrogance and nascent musicality, he’s a would-be writer constantly sending letters to the NME while forced to take a job at the tax office. Wry and touching, this sensitive portrait – of a young man struggling to balance his insecurities with an astonishing creative ambition and his sense of romance with quotidian everyday life – is also an evocative picture of the contemporary Manchester music scene.
