Oscar nominated Denzel Washington and Viola Davis give standout performances in Fences (also a Best Picture nominee), adapted from August Wilson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning stage play. Washington is Troy Maxson, living in 1950s Pittsburgh with his wife Rose (Davis) and son Cory (Jovan Adepo). A waste collector, he dreamed of a baseball career but was too old when the major leagues began admitting black players. Trying to be a good man, his lost chance at glory embitters him until finally, he makes a decision that threatens to tear his family apart. An immeasurably powerful drama exploring the terrible effects of inequality on individual lives, with heavyweight performances from its justly celebrated leads.
