Local Hero director Bill Forsyth’s timeless and beloved romantic comedy classic still feels fresh. It stars John Gordon Sinclair as Gregory, a Lanarkshire teenager on his school’s lacklustre football team. When the coach issues a call for new players, pretty Dorothy (Dee Hepburn) turns up and soon all the boys are competing for her attention. After counselling from his precocious younger sister, Gregory finally gets up the courage to ask Dorothy out – only to discover that the girls at school have other plans. Tender and very funny, it’s a quirky, winning study of teenage vulnerability and first romance.
