Dir: Cristian Mungiu | Romania/France | 2016 | 127 mins | Romanian w/English subtitles
Cast: Adrian Titieni, Maria Dragus, Rares Andrici

The masterful Graduation – new from acclaimed Romanian filmmaker Cristian Mungiu, director of 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days – follows Romeo Aldea (Adrian Titieni), a doctor in a small Romanian town trying to carve out a good life for his daughter Eliza (Maria Dragus). As time goes on, the consequences of his actions slowly unravel, revealing the layers of corruption and ensuing shame still present in Romanian society, as citizens compromise on ethics in hopes of gaining something better. It’s a superb film, exquisitely made, giving you the rewarding sense of watching a director in complete command of his craft.

“A masterly, complex movie of psychological subtlety and moral weight” ***** Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian
