Mike Newell’s (Donnie Brasco, Four Weddings & a Funeral) glossy adaptation of Dickens’ classic novel features impeccable performances from a stellar British cast. When Pip (Irvine) finds himself in trouble after aiding a convict, he is sent to his reclusive neighbour Miss Havisham (Bonham Carter), to act as a playmate for her adopted daughter, Estella (Grainger). Left with a taste for grander things and smitten by the alluring Estella, Pip has to wait years until he can return to this world as a gentleman, thanks to an unknown benefactor.
