Dir. Joe Dante, USA, 1984, 106 mins
Zach Galligan, Phoebe Kates, Hoyt Axton
As an antidote to the ‘Capraesque’ suburban Christmas ideal, Joe Dante’s Gremlins was a dark comic treat in 1984, and is still a real joy today on the big screen. When young Billy Peltzer takes possession of his new pet Mogwai, he is given some very specific instructions: Don’t ever get him wet. Keep him away from bright light. And the most important thing . . never, never feed him after midnight.
