Cast: Dave Johns, Hayley Squires, Dylan McKiernan, Briana Shann, Mick Laffey

Ken Loach’s fierce, emphatic I, Daniel Blake (purportedly his last film) follows fifty-something Newcastle carpenter Daniel (Dave Johns) as he encounters ill health and the inhumanity of the benefits system. Almost painfully moving, it’s a stark reminder of injustice in contemporary Britain and a fitting end – if indeed it is – to Loach’s astounding career.
