Dir: Marc Abraham | USA | 2015 | 124 mins
Cast: Tom Hiddleston, Elizabeth Olsen, Bradley Whitford, Cherry Jones

Tom Hiddleston (High-Rise, Thor) stars as Hank Williams in Marc Abraham’s intelligent and very moving biopic of the brilliant, notoriously troubled country music singer. The film follows Williams’ rise to fame; his tempestuous romance with singer Audrey Sheppard (Elizabeth Olsen), who also became his manager; and the chronic pain – both physical and emotional – feeding the addictions that ultimately led to his tragically early death. An English actor might seem a strange choice for such a timelessly American singer, but Hiddleston is simply fantastic here; nailing not just Williams’ accent but his haunted appearance, stage presence and indelible musical talent.
