An Oscar-nominated Margot Robbie stars in Craig Gillespie’s blackly comic biopic of disgraced ‘90s figure skater Tonya Harding. In 1991, she achieves glory with her sensational triple axel, but this promising legacy is forever tarnished by her role in one of the most infamous and sensational scandals in sports history, a brutal attack on her fellow Olympic hopeful Nancy Kerrigan. With a superb (also Oscar-nominated) turn from Allison Janney as her acerbic mother, this vastly entertaining film explores Harding’s hard-knocks route to the rink and the difficulties of being working class in an elite world, as well as the lasting fallout from the attack.
