This superb, nuanced directorial debut from screenwriter and frequent Ang Lee collaborator James Schamus adapts Philip Roth’s 2008 novel with evocative precision. Set in 1951, it stars Logan Lerman as Marcus, an idealistic young man who leaves his Jewish family home in Newark for college in Ohio – where he is drawn to a beautiful classmate, clashes with the Dean, and finds himself caught between worlds in a society on the brink of vast and powerful change.
