Riffing on Barthes’ A Lover’s Discourse, Claire Denis’ witty black comedy about a single woman living in Paris is a sophisticated delight, and features a typically warm and intelligent performance by Juliette Binoche. Isabelle (Binoche) is an artist caught up in a series of unsatisfying affairs: a litany of lovers including a callous banker, a capricious actor and an ex-husband who has watched too much porn. Still, she keeps searching for a man, even if she’s not certain it’s what she really wants… Also featuring Xavier Beauvois, Alex Descas and Gérard Depardieu, it’s an elegant and eccentric journey through indecision, idealism and sexual exploration.

“What a stylish treat this film is. It leaves you feeling sexier and smarter” **** Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian
