The second of our ‘Favourite Films’ voted for by our audience, Bill Forsyth’s award-winning comedy/drama is whimsical, poignant, hilarious and genuinely heart-warming. Burt Lancaster plays Texas billionaire Felix Happer, who sends his employees to the small Scottish fishing village of Ferness. They are there to negotiate the sale of the town, so that Happer can drill for oil in the North Sea, and much to their surprise, almost everyone in the town is happy to sell up. But the deal hits a snag when Ben Knox (Mackay) refuses to sell his shack on the beach, and Happer is forced to travel to Ferness to oversee negotiations.
