Daniel Auteuil (The Well-Digger’s Daughter) adapts Marseille-born playwright Marcel Pagnol’s acclaimed Marseilles trilogy, with the first two films screening here 2 weeks apart. The films are set in the Old Port of Marseille, and Marius centres on the Bar de la Marine run by César and his son Marius. Fanny, has been secretly in love with Marius since childhood, but Marius has always dreamed of embarking on one of the ships that sail past the bar, heading off to distant horizons. When Fanny reveals her love for Marius, he realises he loves her back, but the call of the sea is too strong.
