Dir: Darren Aronofsky | USA | 2017 | 121 mins
Cast: Jennifer Lawrence, Javier Bardem, Ed Harris, Michelle Pfeiffer, Domnhall Gleeson

Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence (Silver Linings Playbook, Joy) stars in provocateur Darren Aronofsky’s (Requiem for a Dream, Black Swan) operatic, outrageous psychological horror that vacillates between satiric melodrama and nightmarish despair. Lawrence is the unnamed wife of celebrated author Javier Bardem, their marriage already under strain when some unexpected guests arrive at their lavish home; a surgeon (Ed Harris) and his wife (Michelle Pfeiffer). At first it seems like a casual visit – but soon they begin to invade not just the house, but Lawrence’s psyche; driving her to the brink of madness and beyond. Startling, hilarious, anarchic, freakish – all these adjectives (and more) apply.

“No gob left unsmacked in Jennifer Lawrence’s anxiety dream of horror and dismay” ***** The Guardian
