Michael Caine stars in Sandra Nettelbeck’s (Mostly Martha) poignant comedy-drama about an elderly, widowed professor, an American expat largely adrift in Paris and mourning his late wife, who forms a touching relationship with a young cha-cha teacher (Clémence Poésy). It’s adapted from French novelist Francoise Dorner’s La Douceur Assassine and follows Matthew Morgan (Caine) who, three years after his wife’s death, still can’t escape painful memories until a chance encounter with Pauline (Poésy) leads to a burgeoning friendship. Funny and very touching, with gorgeous cinematography of Paris and a heartfelt, nuanced performance from Caine.
