Cast: Willem Dafoe, Riccardo Scamarcio, Ninetto Davoli
From one of cinema’s most predictably outrageous directors, Abel Ferrara (Bad Lieutenant, The Driller Killer), comes this unexpectedly restrained, assured homage to the filmmaker (and polymath) Pier Paolo Pasolini, released on the 40th anniversary of Pasolini’s savage murder. Starring a superb Willem Dafoe as Pasolini, it recreates the last 24 hours of his life; watching as he completes work on the notorious Salò, meets with friends and collaborators, talks to his mother and picks up a stranger. In documenting the end of a life, Ferrara also explores the ideas inherent to Pasolini’s modernist, anti-conventional art.
“Beautiful and enigmatic […] handsome tribute to the great director” **** Mark Kermode, Observer
