A precise and riveting drama that superbly weaves reality and allegory, Stations of the Cross – named after the series of artistic representations of Christ carrying the cross to his crucifixion – is about the stifling upbringing of a young girl raised in a strict Catholic family. Though only 14, every decision of Maria’s life is made according to her church’s rigid interpretation of the Bible. She’s keen to help others via personal sacrifice; but at the same time, can’t help but be intrigued by the ‘satanic’ temptations of music and boys, particularly classmate Christian and the gospel choir he belongs to.
