Cast: Gemma Arterton, Dominic Cooper, Frances Barber
Something of a modern kitchen sink drama, Dominic Savage’s thoughtful, wrenching and finely wrought film explores the malaise of Tara (a revelatory Gemma Arterton), a profoundly unhappy suburban housewife raising two young children while married to an overworked, self-absorbed husband. Desperate to lift herself out of her depression, Tara makes the bold decision to leave everything behind. But her newfound freedom and journey of self-discovery soon gives way to the realisation that walking out on your life isn’t so simple. A searching, morally complex story that unfolds with astonishing authenticity, it’s anchored by a really fabulous performance by Arterton.
