Sean Baker follows his 2015 hit Tangerine with another vividly moving portrait of unseen America – this time, an unforgettable picture of life beneath the poverty line. Precocious six year-old Moonee (Brooklynn Prince) and her friends live in and around a Florida motel; too busy romping around its grounds and the manager’s (Willem Dafoe) office to recognise the struggles facing the adults around them – especially Moonee’s young mother Halley (Bria Vinaite) who has recently lost her job. Together, Halley and Moonee careen through a life lived precariously close to the edge. With superb performances and lyrical storytelling, The Florida Project abounds with a vibrant, volatile energy.
