Diego Quemada-Diez’s (Ken Loach’s camera assistant) searing debut follows three Guatemalan teenagers journeying across perilous Mexico to illegally cross the border in to the US, in search of a better life. Busking for money, and hitching rides to try and reach their destination, the teenagers encounter numerous barriers in the form of border police, human traffickers, kidnappers and drug lords.

Sticking to Loach’s realist directing style using improvisational techniques and largely non-professional actors, The Golden Dream is a suspenseful, gripping coming-of-age drama that explores the grizzly underbelly of modern day Mexico.
