“You were only supposed to blow the bloody doors off.” An iconic Michael Caine stars in Peter Collinson’s classic sixties caper. He is Charlie Croker, a gangster released from prison planning one final, ambitious job in Italy. Recruiting a criminal gang with the backing of Mr Bridger (Noel Coward) – including computer expert Professor Beach (Benny Hill) and electronics handler Birkinshaw (Fred Emney), they set off to Italy to score 4 million dollars’ worth of Chinese gold in Italy. Full of raucous set-pieces and superb Mini Cooper car chases through Turin, it’s a wholly satisfying comic delight that deserves to be seen on the big screen.
