Cast: Maggie Smith, Dominic Cooper, James Corden, Jim Broadbent, Frances de la Tour
Adapted by Alan Bennett from his stage play of the same name, former National Theatre director Nicolas Hytner’s delightful comedy drama takes in the true story of Bennett’s friendship with a homeless woman who lived in a van in his Camden driveway. Planning to stay for three weeks, she ended up staying for fifteen years – and enjoyed a by turns friendly, strained, comic and poignant relationship with the famous playwright. Maggie Smith plays eccentric Mary Shepherd, with Alex Jennings as Bennett and James Corden, Jim Broadbent and Frances de la Tour in supporting roles.
