|Thurs 31st July||7.45pm|
Dir: Sini Anderson | US | 2013 | 81 mins
A film about Kathleen Hanna, lead singer of Bikini Kill and dance-punk trio Le Tigre, who rose to prominence as the voice of the 90s Riot Girrl movement. Outspoken and opinionated, she was loathed by her critics and loved by her adoring fans – who wondered why, in 2010, Hanna suddenly went silent. Charting her troubled childhood, her start in performance poetry, her various bands and solo career as Julie Ruin, her activism and marriage to Beastie Boys’ Adam Horovitz, Anderson’s film is a portrait of a hugely talented musician and a feminist call-to-arms.
“Finds a terrific subject in Kathleen Hanna, the smart, dynamic, confrontational co-founder of the 1990s Riot Girrl movement” **** Steve Rose, The Guardian
