From Martin Provost, director of Séraphine, comes this haunting biopic of French novelist Violette Leduc. It’s set in Paris in the final years of WWII, with Violette (Emmanuelle Devos) is trying to advance her passionate, confessional writing. Becoming part of Simone de Beauvoir’s (Sandrine Kiberlain) circle, she develops a deep love for the iconic writer and philosopher, and meets other key cultural figures including Sartre and Camus. Writing through setbacks, she heads for a breakthrough with her memoir La Bâtarde in 1964. A profound and imaginative examination of an artist whose sexually, emotionally explicit writing was ahead of its time.
