Hebden Bridge Picture House is delighted to partner with our friends at the Yorkshire Silent Film Festival, the Yorkshire wide celebration of silent film with live music taking place throughout the month of May, including two screenings here at Hebden Bridge Picture House.
Dir: William Wellman | USA | 1928 | 81 mins
Cast: Wallace Beery, Louise Brooks, Richard Arlen
An American silent film classic, Beggars of Life stars the iconic Louise Brooks as Nancy, who after escaping her violent stepfather disguises herself as a boy to go on the run. Meeting a kindly drifter, together they ride the rails through stunning American landscapes. Alternately lyrical and action-packed, and with a nail-biting final scene set atop a speeding train, Beggars of Life is an American classic.
This screening will be accompanied by a live harp score from Elizabeth-Jane Baldry, whose performances of Helen of Four Gates and The Lodger were highlights of Yorkshire Silent Film Festival’s Hebden Bridge programmes in 2016 and 2017.
All times listed are the programme start time unless otherwise stated. Films start approx 30 mins after the programme start time.
