Hebden Bridge Picture House is delighted to partner with our friends at the Yorkshire Silent Film Festival, the Yorkshire wide celebration of silent film with live music taking place throughout the month of May, including two screenings here at Hebden Bridge Picture House.
Dir: Ted Wilde | USA | 1928 | 105 mins
Cast: Harold Lloyd, Ann Christy, Bert Woodruff, Babe Ruth
American comedian Harold Lloyd saves the last horse-drawn trolley car from extinction in Speedy, his last silent comedy – and one of his best. An engaging caper shot on location in New York, Speedy shows off the city as it was in 1928, including a breathtaking sequence at Coney Island’s Luna Park, a taxi ride with baseball legend Babe Ruth (plus a cameo from Ruth’s famous Yankee teammate, Lou Gehrig) and a hair-raising finale chase through the streets of Manhattan.
Accompanied live improvised piano by acclaimed silent film pianist Neil Brand.
All times listed are the programme start time unless otherwise stated. Films start approx 30 mins after the programme start time.
