Access and Accessibility

The Picture House strives to provide accessibility to all customers, regardless of ability, and an equally high standard of customer service to all customers, regardless of ability.

For access needs enquiries, or to reserve an assistance dog space please email info@hebdenbridgepicturehouse.co.uk at least 48 hours before the screening; ring 01422 842807 during cinema opening hours or book in advance online from the relevant film / event page. Face to face enquiries can also be made at the Box Office when visiting the cinema. Wheelchair spaces can be booked online or in person at the Box Office.

Building Accessibility

Easy wheelchair / level access is provided down a gentle ramp on the right hand (park) side of the building.

Please use the RADAR facility to alert staff of your arrival, and wait 1-2 minutes whilst someone comes to let you in. You will need a RADAR key to sound the alert to staff (see www.disabilityrightsuk.org for information about the RADAR key scheme and to purchase a key).

There are eight designated wheelchair spaces in the auditorium – four within the seating in the stalls on the raked floor (wedges for wheelchair wheels are available on request) and four at the rear of the stalls seating on level floor. Wheelchair spaces and adjacent seats can be booked when buying tickets online (they are easily identifiable in blue on our Stalls seating plan), or in the venue during Box Office opening hours.

A spacious, gender neutral, accessible toilet is located in the foyer. We are aware that not all disabilities are visible, and not everyone wishes to use toilets marked for use by men and women. We will never question those choosing to use the foyer toilet. The foyer toilet is now stoma friendly and contains baby changing facilities.

We have one accessible parking space to the park side of our building which is available on a first come first served basis for customers who are blue badge holders (please display this at all times and limit parking to the duration of your visit to the cinema). Please do not park on the double yellow lines as access around the building is needed at all times. On street parking is available around town in the evenings and the nearest car parks are St Pol car park on Bridge Gate (4 hours max stay) or Garden Street car park (all day). Local parking information from CMBC is here

For the hearing impaired we have bluetooth receivers that offer audio amplification – please bring your own earphones or headphones (with mini jack) to plug into our receivers, as for hygiene reasons we can no longer provide these. Ask a staff member to borrow a receiver into which you can plug your headset. We have a small number of headphones that can be purchased at the kiosk for £6 if you forget to bring your own.

In addition, captioned or subtitled screenings for the hearing impaired feature full English language subtitles and are shown at a frequency of at least one screening per week. The genre of film and the screening time and day of the week when films are screened with subtitles are rotated to try to be as inclusive as possible. Descriptive subtitling / captioned screenings feature subtitles for speech and provide subtitles for other significant sounds for example when a phone rings, a door slams or when music is playing. Please refer to the list below for upcoming subtitled screenings. These screenings are also shown with ‘S/T’ after the film’s certificate in the programme and ‘CC’ after the screening time on the film’s webpage.
